…when there are conflicting needs or competing demands, there is stress to choose one way or the other. While some problems might be solved, many of life’s problems don’t have a solution. If we stay with the discomfort of not choosing between the two, holding the tension of opposites, something new, a "third", has space to emerge.
@priya iyer Thanks for reposting this always timely discussion. A dear friend, also a student of Jung and Hollis, and painter studied this tension for years and created a painting that has always helped me when I'm in this state of stuckness. I will post her painting in Notes.
Way to go Priya. I remember reading this when you first posted. I thought oh good there’s someone just like me! (Minus the novel :) Super happy you are also now sterilizing your novel. See what great things have come from taking that first unsure step?! You’re officially unstuck. 🥳🎉
I feel like this post must’ve been one of the first posts I read of yours, Priya. As I remember reading it and I remember being inspired by the tensions of opposites and Jung talk.
It’s so awesome that a year on, you’re not only sharing great writing on your Substack but your also about to share your novel! That’s so awesome! Congratulations Priya :)
Great post! I think creativity and life itself is dictated by this tension of the opposites. Epics like the Mahabharata also are based on the fight of the opposites Good versus Evil. French poet Baudelaire went as far as saying the natural inclination of man was evil in his Fleurs du Mal;) Glad the writing part kickstarted and has kept you going! All the best for your novel! Look forward to reading it.
Congrats, Priya. You're doing it! You got this!
Carissa, thank you for your support! 💕

The painting was gorgeous, Joyce, and very powerful! Thank you for sharing it!

Thanks, Kim! I’m hopeful the duration of the “stuckness” decreases with practice!
Congratulations on pushing through, Priya. Taking the plunge is always tough but you did it and you've got a year under your belt.
Jeanine, thank you! Feels good to be here, and in great company!
